Spolana modernises granulated ammonium sulphate production for CZK 25m. This fertiliser benefits gardeners and farmers.

18-01-2022

Neratovice-based SPOLANA s.r.o. has upgraded its operations producing granulated agricultural fertiliser ammonium sulphate unde the name Spolsan® G. This product complements the existing crystalline form offered by Spolana under the trade name Spolsan® S. The product – Spolsan® G – is designed for many applications in agriculture. It is suitable both for gardeners and large-scale agricultural production. Spolana plans to manufacture 45,000 tonnes of this product this year. The investment in production technology modernisation exceeded CZK 25 million.

“We are returning to the market with a fertiliser for direct use. It is the first step in developing a product range of mixed fertilisers based on ammonium sulphate. In addition, it will expand our product portfolio and increase our export capabilities,” explains Piotr Kearney, Spolana’s CEO.

The project of revitalising ammonium sulphate production facilities is part of the parent ORLEN Group plans focused on producing environmentally safe nitrogen industrial fertilisers. These certified fertilisers are safe, environmentally friendly, and human-health neutral within their entire lifecycle, from production to use. Thus, they meet the stringent requirements posed by the Product Stewardship safety programme announced by the international association Fertilizers Europe.

“The production technology upgrade has significantly improved the product’s quality. So, the entire production process is now maximally environmentally friendly,” concludes Miroslav Falta, Spolana’s executive.

Spolana, a member of the ORLEN Unipetrol Group since 2016, manufactures inorganic compounds and other chemical products such as sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, oleum, and others. Spolana is also the only PVC and caprolactam manufacturer in the Czech Republic. Caprolactam is the base material in polyamide fibre production. For instance, these fibres are used to produce sportswear and gear for water sports, winter sports, mountain hiking, and mountaineering.
