The CAS 60 vehicles are capable
of carrying 9,500 litres of water and 1,000 litres of foam on-board. One of
them has special high-pressure equipment called ‘One Seven’ and creates air-mechanical
foam. The pumping output of each vehicle is 6,000 litres of water per minute in
free flow. The total investment was CZK 18.5 million. Last year, Spolana
firefighters dealt with several dozens of incidents, assistances and false
alarms on- and off-site of the chemical park that employs more than 700 people.“The existing two CAS 40 vehicles used by the Spolana Neratovice Fire and Rescue Service
since 1984 and 1986 are past the current standards of equipment used by
professional units. That is why we have decided to renew our fleet. Now we can
use 11 vehicles. Following due and proper tests, the new CAS 60 will replace
the existing CAS 40 engines that will continue serving the volunteer
firefighters. Spolana will donate one CAS 40 engine to the voluntary
firefighters in Libiš, and the other one will be auctioned and sold to
municipal volunteer firefighters. The two new engines have improved our
flexibility, especially at a time when we need to safeguard individual
operations during fire-hazardous work,” says Martin Tomi, Chief
of Spolana’s Fire and Rescue Service.
The fire crew will use the new vehicles to deal with emergencies, assist
with the maintenance of production unit technologies and address incidents
outside the chemical plant as part of the Fire Alarm Plan of the Central
Bohemian Region within the integrated rescue system. “Last year, we dealt
with seven fires and 20 hazardous materials
incidents. We
were involved in rescuing people and animals 18 times. We took part in 600
technical
assistances and 469 assistances during fire-hazardous work. We drove to false
alarms in 61 cases,” Martin Tomi enumerates.
“When Spolana’s
firefighters go outside the chemical site, they mainly help to tackle fires and
rescue people in the district of Mělník. But since we are part of the Czech
Republic’s integrated rescue system, our crew and engines can be deployed at
any location throughout the Czech Republic,” Martin Tomi concludes.
SPOLANA a.s. is one
of the largest chemical manufacturing companies in the Czech Republic and the
only manufacturer of PVC and caprolactam also producing ammonium sulphate, and
sulphuric acid. It currently employs over 700 people. Spolana has been owned by
Unipetrol since 2016. The Unipetrol Group is the largest refining and
petrochemical company in the Czech Republic. It focuses on crude oil processing
and production, distribution and sale of fuels and petrochemical products –
especially plastics and fertilisers. In all these areas, it is one of the major
players in the Czech and Central European markets. The Unipetrol group includes
refineries and production plants in Litvínov and Kralupy nad Vltavou, Paramo
with the Mogul brand in Pardubice and Kolín, the Spolana company in Neratovice,
and two research centres in Litvínov and Brno. Unipetrol also includes Benzina
petrol station network, which is the largest chain in the Czech Republic with
418 stations. Unipetrol is one of the largest companies in the Czech Republic
in terms of turnover. Last year, it earned more than CZK 130 billion and
employs more than 4,700 people. In 2005, Unipetrol became part of the PKN Orlen
Group, the largest oil processor in Central Europe.
